Week Sixteen at The Shire

What’s going on in Abergavenny this week?

Opening this weeks newsletter with a thought for all those affected by the devastating fire on Frogmore Street. The link to a fundraiser is available below for anybody that would like to contribute.

Some businesses in the vicinity have been closed since the incident, including the new Italian restaurant on that street - Il Gusto - which is located where Amo’s was previously. Thankfully their building is unaffected. Perhaps when they re-open this would be a great opportunity to go and support them. I can’t imagine it can get any worse than Amo’s…

Christmas Lights

Christmas lights will be switched on in town on Saturday 16th. Some businesses are open a little later, including Madame Fromage who will be serving festive specials, mulled wine, and mince pies until 7pm.

The Towpath Inn

Lee has taken social media by storm this year by serving Detroit style pizza from his tiny pub kitchen out in Gilwern. This Sunday from 12pm - 2pm he is running a new Detroit slice focused on a traditional Sunday roast which features tenderstem, rosemary potatoes, slow-braised beef or pork, a Yorkshire pudding, and rich gravy. I’ll be there to try it! You can book a table here.

The Beer Box

Ben has released his Christmas Cocktail Box Menu for 2024: 6 cocktails, garnishes, instructions, equipment and a mini bottle of Prosecco in every festive package.

Presented beautifully and delivered personally to your doorstep for the perfect Christmas gift.

All RETURNING customers can enter the code HOHOHO2024 at checkout for a £5 loyalty discount per box (this will be checked).

Follow the link below where you can select on each box to see the cocktail options for each box and all of the ingredients:

Catch 22

An all time Catch 22 favourite is making a come back on the street food menu tonight and Thursday: Sweet Chilli Crispy Beef. Anticipated to sell out FAST so run, don’t walk!

The team will be closing between 19th and 27th November so that they can enjoy a well deserved break before the busy Christmas period and New Year ahead. Back open on Thursday 28th November from 4pm.

“Thank you to everyone for their continued support and keeping us so busy!”

The Munch Stop

Pushing a bit further than Abergavenny but I felt it was important to mention this. Jordan Jones, owner of The Munch Stop burger truck in Tredegar, was recently a victim of arson.

His other van is still intact and he is continuing his grind on Thursday and Friday from 10am - 2pm at Sirhowy Hill, NP22 4PA.
